After 9 years in Notes, I am considering a new line of work
I have been reading all of the posts in this string with a very heavy heart and just read the posting about the number of jobs on Dice listed for Notes vs. those listed for MS and I finally decided to chime in.
For the first time in 9 years I have considered surrendering and finding a new line of work. I have worked in small Notes shops and large ones. The questions about why companies move to Exchange make me shake my head. Most companies don't make the decision to move to Exchange; they don't understand enough about the decision they are making. They decide to move to Outlook. It makes things easier for them. Where I worked before, Outlook was the answer to their performance problems with slow performance of large mail files. Oddly enough, they didn't want to work offline with a local replica, but they liked the thought of using Outlook because they could read their email offline. Main reason for wanting to switch.
I have been cut from other jobs because they were going to outsource. Now, my current job will be eliminated soon because they are going to 'offshore'. Sounds like a new term for outsourcing to me. It's an easy decision for them to make, they no longer use Notes for email. They switched to Exchange awhile ago and only have some applications left in ND.
Judging by the number of jobs that I have seen in my area for ND, it is time to look for something else. The housing market isn't very conducive to relocating......................Argh, now this is sounding like a rant.
I love ND, I hate to go, but it seems like it is time.
